Dancing Past the Dark

The universe just got lots bigger, and a real review of Dancing Past the Dark

March 19, 2014 By Nan Bush 4 Comments

This time I am sending you off to read other people–not that I have nothing to say, but they have really good posts on their blogs this week.

First, and self-explanatory, is a commentary on the dazzling news from the South Pole that the immensity of the universe seems just to have gotten moreso. Here is a wonderfully intelligent and readable-by-the-rest-of-us article by physicist and Episcopal Bishop of Rhode Island Nick Knisely. It is too good to miss. His blog, Entangled States, is a continuing marvel.

What’s going on with the new data from BICEP?

Second, and of obvious personal interest to me, is an in-depth review of Dancing Past the Dark–the first that actually discusses the book’s content! For those of you interested in knowing what somebody else thinks about the book, I am passing this along.  The blog is Everybody Means Something, which I’ve just discovered, covering a wide range of interests. Fractals, anyone?

Happy reading!

Shameless promotion of good NDE news

August 11, 2012 By Nan Bush 11 Comments

Dancing Past the Dark: Distressing Near-Death Experiences is (at last!) available in paperback. You or your bookstore can order it directly from the publisher, Parson’s Porch Books.  If you’re attending the IANDS conference, the bookstore will have copies at a discount. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other outlets around the world will also have it, but there may be a wait.

We want laypeople and professionals who need this information to hear about Dancing.  With no hired marketing agent or publicity team, publicizing the book takes a word-of-mouth campaign. How you can help:

      • Ask your local library to order a copy.
      • Let other readers know what you think by writing a brief review at the book’s page on Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
      • Tell anyone who might have an interest–friends, relatives, nurses, physicians, chaplains and other clergy, psychologists, social workers, therapists, bereavement counselors, hospice volunteers–that at last there is a comprehensive, non-scary book about “the other NDEs.”
      • If you’re in a nonfiction book club, ask them to consider reading it. (If they do, I’ll provide a simple study guide.)
      • If you subscribe to a professional journal or newsletter, suggest that they review the book; if you’re equipped, offer to write it.

Why I hope you’ll help Dancing succeed:

      • It is the only source we know of where people can find, in one place, such a trove of information and discussion about disturbing spiritual events.
      • IANDS will receive half of the royalties from this groundbreaking paperback.
      • Beyond that, Parson’s Porch Book profits “turn books into bread” for hungry people.
      • You can feel confident in recommending the book. Its endorsements are strong. Steve Volk, author of Fringe-ology, has called Dancing

…absolutely enthralling—literary, adventurous, incisive, informative and smart… one of the strongest, most thought-provoking books on the paranormal I’ve ever seen.

Wow! And just think, it’s helping  good causes, and you don’t have to carry a sign!

Distressing—even hellish—NDEs coming into their own?

January 16, 2012 By Nan Bush 3 Comments

There’s an amazing, dam-busting conversation going on in the forums at the near-death.com site: http://ow.ly/8vfXj

Titled “The case for distressing/hellish NDE study,” the thread has grown to 104 posts in a week’s time. And they’re substantive, interesting (sometimes downright fascinating), mostly respectful posts. I called the thread “dam-busting” because of both its size and the richness of its content.

All sorts of sub-topics are emerging: questions of what constitutes “reality,” the nature of being, whether distressing NDEs are morally contingent, the role of personality and behavioral history. In short, it’s the kind of conversation we haven’t heard in the past three decades.

Even if you want simply to lurk, it’s worth sitting in. Read through the comments and see the range of discussion. It’s just great! Huge thanks go to RabbitDawg (yes, our own RabbitDawg) for opening the conversation. He really started something! And as always, thanks to Kevin Williams for the near-death.com site and its wealth of forums. See you there!

In local news, Bruce Greyson has returned from presenting an invited paper at a conference with the Dalai Lama at his compound in Dharmasala, India, and has sent the foreword for Dancing Past the Dark. The book’s index is almost finished, and it and the cover are expected by week’s end. Its appearance for Nooks, Kindles, and other e-readers is definitely coming closer! And because of that, I am awash in the major task of today’s authors, preparation for marketing the book. (If you Tweet, look for me at @nancyevansbush, or from your browser, type http://twitter.com/nancyevansbush ). It’s a whole new world out there!  There is no end to learning curves.
